About the Co-Founder

Meet Dr. Rao

Dr. Rao realized early in life that he had an appreciation for material science and engineering. This awareness became apparent as he learned of the fact that all technological advances are made possible with new materials. With this in mind, he pursued his master’s degree in materials science at the Indian Institute of Technology in Mumbai. This broadened his horizons and motivated him to specialize in semiconductor materials and devices during his Ph.D. studies at the Oregon State University and the University of Michigan. Following his dream, he started his teaching and research career at George Mason University. In just 9 years, he became a full professor and received 28 years of continued research funding from prestigious funding agencies including the National Science Foundation (NSF). 




He has always wanted to impart his knowledge to educate young children and parents alike. In 2006, Dr. Rao and his wife Savitri started classes at the Durga Temple, to raise funds for the Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to providing basic education in tribal villages in India. In the past 8 years, the program has grown into multiple numbers of Curie Learning centers. They also opened an early elementary education day school program called The Madame Curie School of Science and Technology. The focus of this program is both science and technology, along with a strong foundation in math and language arts.

Message from Dr. Rao Mulpuri - Curie Learning's Founder

In the last 30 years, the world has seen unprecedented innovations in science and technology. It is going to be tenfold in the years to come. Curie Learning is an instrument that presents the world with future innovators and thinkers. Schools often teach to the lower 50% of the students. This is true even in the Gifted & Talented (GT) programs. Due to this reason, many students are not challenged enough in school, leading to boredom and other unintended consequences. Curie Learning was founded to bridge this gap. 


Curie Learning wants to provide the challenge the child wants through classes and Curie Creative Talent competitions. We also inspire children through a forum where highly accomplished people in science, technology, business, social service, etc. connect with the kids through monthly seminars. Children at Curie Learning are also involved in social work, fundraising activities for nonprofits, helping in preparing food for the homeless, thus introduced to the social responsibility that rests on their shoulders as future citizens.

Advancement vs. Enrichment

Curie Learning offers both Enrichment & Advancement Programs for students K-12. Students are trained to both strive for and achieve higher levels of academic success through our multi-disciplinary modes of learning.

Our programs provide a specialized curriculum in Math and English for students in Grades 2-7. This curriculum focuses on developing a scholastic aptitude from a young age. The programs aim to prepare children for the next level of SOL.

Curie Advancement/Enrichment Program

Curie Learning’s Advancement program offers students in grades K-8, the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills beyond their present grade level in both Math and English.

 Curie Advancement/Enrichment program is geared towards challenging the students to acquire knowledge beyond their current grade level and towards students who require additional assistance and practice within their current grade level. The knowledge gained from our program will propel students ahead to the next grade level.

Curie's Standardized Testing Program

Curie Learning’s Standardized Testing program offerings training in preparation for the PSAT / SAT/ ACT tests. Our program focuses on providing students with the tools necessary to take these standardized tests with a higher degree of success. The program concentrates on both study skills and presentation skills that helps the student standout amongst their peers, resulting in a greater chance to be noticed by the college/university of their choice.

Curie Creative Talents

Curie Learning offers various nationally accredited competitions to provide children with an opportunity to be involved and compete in various contests. 

Curie Social Service

As part of our Key Skills Development initiative, we proudly present "Curie Social Service”. Our focus is to help encourage and nurture fair-minded and kind-hearted individuals.

Curie STEM Seminar

Meet Marie Curie

"One never notices what has been done; one can only see what remains to be done." - Marie Curie (1867-1934). 


We all know Madame Curie for her discovery of Radium that won her a Nobel Prize. What most of us might not know is that she was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize and the only woman to win in two fields, Physics and Chemistry. She was also the first woman to become a professor at Sorbonne in France. Marie Curie studied Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics at the university but pursued only Physics where she earned her degree. She was a brilliant student who was at the top of her class. Marie Curie, along with her husband, discovered Polonium, Radium. Polonium was named after Poland, Madame Curie's native country. Radium is derived from the Latin word Radius, which means ray; referring to the rays that were discovered by Marie Curie and her husband. They both coined the term 'radioactivity'. In 1903, together with her husband, she was awarded half of the Nobel Prize for Physics for their study on the spontaneous radiation discovered by Becquerel, who was awarded the other half of the Prize. At first, only Pierre Curie and Henri Becquerel were nominated for the 1903 Nobel Prize for Physics but after Pierre complained to the Academy, they rectified the mistake and included Marie. In 1911, she received a second Nobel Prize, this time in Chemistry, in recognition of her work in radioactivity. She received this Nobel Prize on her own. 


Marie Curie founded the Radium Institute in Poland, which today is The Maria Sklodowska-Curie Institute of Oncology, a major cancer research facility. Madame Curie's work led to the development of the x-ray machine, which revolutionized the medical field.
