ENGLISH TEACHERS

Mrs. Price has been at Curie Learning for seven years, where she oversaw the creation of the new English curriculum. She has taught almost all the English classes Curie Learning offers, from Level 3 to high school level. Her favorite parts about teaching are seeing the improvements after a student revises an essay, having deep discussions with students about meaningful topics, and seeing the "a-ha" look in a student's eyes when understanding a difficult concept. 

Mrs. Price has a bachelor's degree in English and Editing and a master's degree in Publishing. Before transitioning to education, she worked as a writer and editor for marketing companies, magazines, and journals. She loves creative writing and is currently working on a young adult novel.

  Professor Ahmadi is an internationally acclaimed master of language arts and communication raised in Northern California with senior level experience in education. He is an active researcher having produced highly commended peer-reviewed publications in his respective fields. Under the tutelage of esteemed professors emeriti in California, Prof. Ahmadī was instructed by prominent scholars of Arts and Letters in the endangered disciplines of Classical, Medieval, and British Literature, Critical Pedagogy and Linguistics, Nineteenth Century American Literature, Eighteenth and Nineteenth Century British Literature, and Ethnic American Literature, respectively. Prof. Ahmadī completed his practicum and teacher training in classrooms serving underrepresented and underprivileged communities in Oakland, California. His expatriate teaching experiences include but are not limited to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the State of Qatar, Japan, the People’s Republic of China, and Occupied Palestinian Territories(OPT). Prof. Ahmadī looks forward to developing the literacy skills of the respected students at Curie Learning.  

Mrs. Allen is starting her second year at Curie Learning. She thoroughly enjoyed teaching Level 6, and is looking forward to adding Level 4 to her experience. Before joining the Curie team, she taught Extended 8th Grade Language Arts and tutored elementary students using UVA's PALS program. Her favorite parts about teaching are connecting with her students and seeing them apply what they are learning within their work. Mrs. Allen has a bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies and a minor in English. She loves constantly learning new things, visiting National Parks with her family, reading great books, and meditation.  

 Mrs. Beringer has been at Curie Learning since 2016 and has taught many Curie English classes over the years. Her favorite part of teaching at Curie is seeing the growth students make year to year, especially in terms of their writing progress. Mrs. Beringer has also taught students from Pre-K to adult, both domestically and abroad. She started her teaching career in Vietnam and then moved back to the U.S., where she worked as the ESOL Specialist and Instructional Coach at a public charter school in DC. For the past 6 years, she has been teaching and writing curriculum for FCPS. She has a master’s in Education from Dowling College, bachelor’s degrees in both English and Psychology from Binghamton University, and an associate’s degree in Criminal Justice from Farmingdale College. Mrs. B is an avid reader and adrenaline junkie who loves to do yoga and has a passion for travel.  

 Ms. Bruner has been a teacher for Loudoun County Public Schools for 8 years. She has taught 1st and 2nd grade. Additionally, she has tutored students in elementary, middle, and high school. She received her bachelor's in English from William and Mary, as well as her master's in education. Her favorite part about teaching is establishing a relationship with her students, helping students grow throughout the year, and challenging her students. When she is not teaching, Ms. Bruner likes to spend time outdoors, read, write poetry/prose, and spend time with her family and close friends. 

 Ms. Cureton is a certified teacher with over 25 years of classroom and administrative experience, both nationally and internationally. She holds a master’s degree in Education and is passionate about helping students achieve their full potential. She has been with Curie Learning for two wonderful years where she has taught English and math classes to levels 1–6. Ms. Cureton is known for her dynamic teaching style and ability to connect with students on a personal level through remote teaching. Her classes are challenging yet engaging and fun. She is currently teaching for Fairfax County Schools and is working on completing and publishing a memoir.  

For the past twenty years, Ms. Mainer has had the opportunity to work in the field of education, teaching both adults and children. After getting her master’s degree from John Carroll University in Ohio, she began teaching language arts. She was able to work with a lot of amazing students, instructing them on grammar, writing, report writing, literature, essays, just to name a few. Later, she moved to Atlanta, GA, where she worked with school districts around the Atlanta metropolitan area, helping teachers develop curriculum using interactive Smart Boards. This was the first time that teachers were learning how to use technology in their classroom. She also worked with students at the same time, instructing them on some of the exciting new ways they could learn.

In 2009, she moved to Northern VA, where she began working as a corporate trainer/technical writer. In her current role, she is tasked with developing curriculum, proofreading/writing documents, and classroom instruction. She has had an interesting and wonderful career, and she hopes to bring her love of language arts and teaching to your child’s classroom. Her goal is to make the classes interactive and fun while at the same time helping your child become the best possible student. 

Ms. Meade grew up in Northern Virginia and loves the international environment of the Washington, D.C. area. Ms. Meade holds a bachelor’s degree in International Relations, an associates degree in Legal Studies, and a master’s degree in Public Administration. All of the English and communications classes she has within these degrees has enabled her to enjoy teaching English at the college level. She loves literature, communication studies, and helping others empower themselves with advancing and improving their writing skills.  

Ms. Meade has a great love of learning and enjoys most science and humanities studies. She has driven over 40,000 miles across Europe and the United States observing and analyzing markets, cultures, economic trends, and nature, and making friends. When she is not working or teaching, she enjoys nature walks, campfires, documentaries, socializing with friends, or discovering UNESCO world heritage sites and other fascinating and charming places in this big, beautiful world.

 Ms. Mena (M.Ed., English) has been teaching at Curie for two years, and taught high school English and Advisory in New York City for eight years. She loves reading with young people, helping them to hone their voices in writing, and developing leadership skills. Her specialties are peer editing and the writing process, grammar and syntax, and personal narrative. In her free time, she enjoys contemporary literature, bike riding, and playing outside with her kids. 

 Mrs. Merwin has been with Curie Learning since 2022. She has taught various English and math classes Curie Learning offers, from Level 1 to Level 4. She loves laughing with her students and helping them feel comfortable in the classroom. It is her goal to help each student feel confident enough to truly try their best. Mrs. Merwin has a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. Before coming to Curie, she spent a few years as a public school teacher (2nd and 3rd grades) and tutored English online to students in China. In her free time, she loves to read, play or listen to music, and learn other languages. 

 This is Ms. Myers’s 4th year as an English teacher and writing tutor with Curie. She comes from a family of educators: her mom and sister are also teachers. Georgetown University is where she received a graduate writing certificate and The George Washington University is where she earned a master's degree in publishing. For the last 20+ years she has been working at university bookstores or publishers around the country in a variety of roles, and teaching both children and adults in her church congregation. She spends her free time reading, crafting, and cheering on the Washington Nationals.  

 Ms. Ruiz has been with Curie Learning for two years as a 3:1 tutor, and now additionally teaches Level 6 and 7 English classes. During weekdays, she teaches 7th grade English at a public middle school. She loves discussing literature with students, ways to revise and expand essays, as well as sharing creative story ideas. Ms. Ruiz has a bachelor's degree in English and a master's degree in teaching. When she's not teaching, she enjoys eating delicious food and playing video games with her two cats by her side.
